This Vintage Sterling Silver Native American Necklace is truly spectacular! The workmanship and color on the pendant are striking! The large bear pendant was crafted by Navajo Alvin Yellowhorse and has his maker's mark stamped on the back of the pendant as well as being marked Sterling. The pendant measures approximately 3 1/2" nose to tail and 2 1/2" from the top of the bale to bottom of feet.
The colorful spiny oyster shell, blue turquoise, jet, malachite, mother of pearl and lapis are skillfully inlaid and gorgeous. The geometric design makes a statement and the sterling surrounding the inlay has nice shaping and detail that adds style. The accompanying sterling Navajo pearl and long bead chain measures approximately 27 1/2" in length and is the perfect complement. The bead chain is unmarked and tests for sterling silver. We have seen other Alvin Yellowhorse pendants on this style of chain. This necklace is in good vintage condition and is ready to be worn and enjoyed. This is a truly exceptional piece!
Alvin Yellowhorse is a sought after designer in the world of Native American Jewelry! He is a master stonecutter and silversmith. Alvin is credited with originating an inlay style called "Corn Row Wave Inlay" in which the stones are individually cut and rounded over before they are set. Alvin has been featured in several high-end galleries, was recognized by the Smithsonian Magazine in their August 1999 issue and has won several Blue Ribbons at the Santa Fe Indian Market competition.
