This Vintage 14k Yellow Gold Opal Ring is gorgeous! It features an oval natural opal with primarily blue and green color. A very beautiful stone that exhibits strong flashes of color.
This ring is circa the 1970's and has a Brutalist style. The oval opal measures approximately 11.5 x 14 x 5 mm or 4.5 carats by calculation. The setting is marked 14k and 585 and tests for 14k gold (solid gold, not filled or plated). This ring is in good vintage condition and is ready to be worn and enjoyed. A ring with wonderful color and style!

Opals have rich meaning in history. Opals have been said to foster love, passion, loyalty, faithfulness, emotional expressiveness, warmth and spontaneity. In Roman times opals were, after emeralds, the most valued gem. At the turn of the century, engagement rings often did not contain diamonds. In the Victorian Era it was believed that each stone had it's own mythical properties and symbolism. Opals were thought to symbolize hope and love.
