This Vintage Opal Ring is magnificent! The large genuine opal has flashes of green, blue and pink. The opal is a cabochon measuring approximately 11mm x 13mm. It is set in a mounting with floral design and great details. The petals surrounding the opal have very fine lines that provide contrast to the polished looped design below. The ring sits high on the finger with a rise of approximately 11mm. The well made yellow gold setting is marked 14k and tests for 14k gold (not plated or filled).
Opals have rich meaning in history. Opals have been said to foster love, passion, loyalty, faithfulness, emotional expressiveness, warmth and spontaneity. In Roman times opals were, after emeralds, the most valued gem. Opal is the birthstone for October. This fabulous statement ring circa 1950 would make a wonderful addition to any collection!
